It’s been a long, cold, gray winter for everyone in the Northeast, but as we enter March you can’t help but begin thinking about Spring.  There’s nothing that quite symbolizes the coming of Spring like baseball.  The green grass, the crack of the bat, and the smell of hot dogs bacon.  At least that’s what the Philadelphia Phillies AAA affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, are betting on with their new 2014 marketing campaign, “Smell the Change.”  “If loving bacon is wrong, I don’t want to be right #smellthechange,” the Iron Pigs tweeted on February 24th.

Their “Smell the Change” campaign includes new Saturday uniforms and caps with a strip of bacon as the logo––the bacon strip is also represented in the piping up the side of the players pants.

Fans aren’t being left out either, for just $18.00, a t-shirt can be purchased that actually smells like bacon!  (At least for the first 10-15 washes.)  The “Smell the Change” campaign is being recognized nationally, even by man’s best friend.  Beggin Strips, every puppy’s favorite treat, retweeted the Leigh Valley IronPigs, adding “Best. Hat. EVER.”

Just like my man Sal Paolantonio would say, “I agree.”  I appreciate the Iron Pigs risky marketing campaign, it’s fun, it’s different, and based on social media’s responses, it works!  Let’s eat!

And the uniforms, in all their glory, here:
